The oldest building on the estate is located at Casale. It was built in the <b>9th century as a <\/b><b>fortified tower<\/b>, it has then undergone several transformations, first becoming a monastery and later a farm. The vineyard at <b>Paronza<\/b> has an even older history: the first documented mention of it dates back in 1169. That year, Pope Alexander II donated Paronza to the monks of the Hospitale di Santa Maria in Paronzola, <b>an inn for those who traveled Via Francigena<\/b>. The goal was to allow monks to produce wine to offer to the pilgrimins. It is a predator that plays an important role in the balance of forest ecosystems.
